Cultural History Kavanur has several ancient temples, including the Vishnu Temple at Elayur, the Shiva-Vishnu Temple at Kavanur and the Subrahmanya Temple. The first Muslim mosque in the Panchayat was established at Thavarapparambu, Kavanur, more than a hundred years ago. Seven mosques in the Panchayat also function as centres of Islamic religious education (Dars). The traditional Othupallikkoodams and Kudippallikkoodams laid the foundation for education and cultural development in the early period. Later, madrasas were established in their place for religious education. Libraries, reading rooms, sports clubs and arts clubs have played an important role in the cultural development of the region.
